Our next stop on our Summer Wine Series journey is Argentina.
When you pour a glass of Argentine wine, you’re not just tasting grapes, you’re tasting altitude, tradition, and a fierce pride passed down through generations. At Tierra Luna Cellars, we’re constantly inspired by the world’s great winemaking regions. And in the southern cone of the Americas, few countries carry the vinous soul of their people quite like Argentina.
Argentina’s wine culture is defined by its dramatic geography. Nestled against the towering Andes, vineyards stretch across sun-drenched valleys where snowmelt from the mountains irrigates the land. These high-altitude conditions, especially in regions like Mendoza and Salta, create wines with deep concentration, bold structure, and vibrant acidity.
Malbec may be best known, but Argentina’s vineyards offer much more than that. Torrontés thrives in the north with its aromatic, floral notes. Bonarda, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah all find their own unique voices in the varied soils and elevations of the country.
In Argentina, wine isn’t reserved for special occasions. It’s part of the everyday table, poured generously and paired with long conversations. A family asado (barbecue) isn’t complete without a bottle of red shared among cousins, neighbors, and friends. Wine in Argentina doesn’t stand apart from life; it weaves into it, reflecting the culture’s warmth and hospitality.
There’s also a strong sense of national identity in the glass. After economic hardships and political transitions, Argentina’s wine industry came back with renewed pride in local terroir and native talent. Winemakers today embrace both tradition and innovation, crafting wines that are uniquely Argentine.
Here at Tierra Luna Cellars, our winemaking is rooted in California, but our spirit is international. We look to places like Argentina for inspiration: for how they celebrate their land, their people, and their history through wine.
When you open a bottle from our collection this summer, we invite you to think of the high Andes, the smoky scent of asado, and the kind of dinner table that always has one more chair pulled up. That’s the magic of Argentine wine culture: where generosity flows as freely as the Malbec.
Grill up a juicy steak, slice some provoleta cheese, and pour our Stella Z Zinfandel for a California-meets-Argentina experience you won’t forget.
We’ll travel to South Africa, where centuries-old vines meet ocean breezes and a new generation of winemakers is rewriting the story of wine on the Cape.
